The most romantic destinations in Vietnam to visit for couples, in my opinion, are Da Lat, Phu Quoc, Halong Bay, Hoi An, Da Nang, and Sapa. Big Cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are also great starting locations for many visitors to Vietnam, including couples. 

In general, if you want a romantic mountain setting, Da Lat and Sapa are the best choices. If you want a beach holiday, Phu Quoc, Hoi An, Ha Long Bay, and Da Nang are places to go. Hoi An is also known for its ancient town with romantic boat rides and lantern-lit streets.

Taking an overnight luxury cruise on Halong Bay is also a great thing to do in Vietnam as a couple or honeymooners. You can enjoy the scenery from your private balcony, enjoy swimming, and kayaking.

Vietnam is one of the most affordable countries to travel in the world, so you and your partner can enjoy a luxury holiday without having to spend a lot. You can stay in a 5-star beachfront resort, swim in a private pool, and enjoy spa treatments at affordable prices.

1. Da Lat – The City of Love

Da Lat, the city of eternal spring, is a beautiful city located in the highland center of Vietnam. It is a romantic city that is known for its mild weather all year round, fresh air, peaceful atmosphere, and beautiful landscapes.

You and your partner can explore the city center by walking or using Grab. You can visit attractions like the Crazy House, Xuan Huong Lake, Dalat flower garden, Bao Dai palace, Linh Phuoc pagoda, and the night market. You can take the cable car ride together to visit Truc Lam monastery and Tuyen Lam Lake.

Dalat is famous for its impressive waterfalls. You can visit Datanla waterfall, Pongour Waterfall, and Elephant Waterfall. In Datanla, you can take the alpine coaster together, and while in Elephant Waterfall, you can climb to the shoulder of Linh An pagoda.

This city of love also has two beautiful lakes: Xuan Huong Lake and Tuyen Lam lake. You can take a swan-shaped boat ride on Xuan Huong Lake or a boat tour on Tuyen Lam lake together.

If you are fans of coffee, you can check out many trendy cafes like An Cafe or a coffee plantation such as Me Linh coffee plantation. You can have a delicious cafe here while enjoying a nice setting with stunning views of the city, valleys, and mountains.

Food lovers can check out popular restaurants for dinners such as Goc ha thanh and Nem nướng Phượng. There are also many delicious grill and hotpot restaurants to check out. 

Da Lat has an airport (Lien Khuong International Airport), located around 35 km away from the city center. It is easily accessible by air and has frequent flights from major cities in Vietnam like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. 

Da Lat has mild weather all year round but has a rainy season starting from April to October. The wettest months are from July to October. The best month to visit Da Lat is from November to April when the weather is dry with little rain. 

Da Lat has many cozy homestays and guest houses, as well as luxury hotels and resorts that have been converted from mansions and villas from the French colonial period. You can either choose to stay in the city center around Xuan Huong Lake, or head to tranquil Tuyen Lam lake, in the outskirts of Da Lat.

For a romantic stay, I recommend looking at the Dalat Palace Heritage Hotel in the city center. This hotel is centrally located right next to Ho Xuan Huong Lake, and within walking distance to the lively night market. You can find many delicious restaurants, trendy cafes and bars nearby.

If you want a peaceful retreat and don’t mind being a bit further away from the city center, you can consider staying in Dalat Edensee Lake Resort & Spa and Terracotta Hotel & Resort Dalat in the Tuyen Lam lake area. They have nice quiet rooms overlooking forested areas and lakes. 

2. Phu Quoc – The Tropical Paradise Island

Phu Quoc is one of the top places to go in Vietnam for couples for beach vacation. This tropical island is located in South Vietnam and is best known for its pristine beaches and all-inclusive beach resorts.

Phu Quoc has an international airport located 30 minutes Grab taxi away from Duong Dong, which is the main town of the island. It is a 45-minute flight from Ho Chi Minh City.

The best things to do in Phu Quoc is enjoy the beaches, sunset views, and stay in a nice beachfront resort. You can enjoy swimming, snorkeling, and diving. This Pearl island has a beautiful sunset, you can have a romantic dinner and watch the sunset together at many resorts on Long Beach.

You can check out nice beaches on the eastern coast of the island such as Sao Beach and Khem Beach. In the North, you can go to Starfish Beach and Ham Rong Cape.

Not only the beaches, Phu Quoc has many other activities for couples to enjoy. You can visit cultural and historical sights such as Phu Quoc prison and Ho Quoc pagoda. You can visit Pearl Farm, fish sauce factory, bee farm, and pepper farm.

You can take nice photos at Sunset Town on the south tip of the island and take the cable car ride to An Thoi island. At night, you can go shopping at Phu Quoc night market.

The best month to go to Phu Quoc for the best weather is from November to March. This is the dry season, so you’ll have lots of sunny days, little rains, which is ideal for beach activities and sightseeing.

Phu Quoc has plenty of affordable luxury accommodations. You can stay at places like Seashells Phu Quoc Hotel and Dusit Princess Moonrise Beach Resort. They are very nice hotels centrally located in the middle of the west coast of Phu Quoc. They both have a private beach, a pool, onsite restaurants, and quality beds, so you’ll have a comfortable stay there.

3. Halong Bay – romantic overnight cruise

Halong Bay is one of the best destinations to visit in Vietnam for couples. This is a UNESCO Heritage site that is known for its thousands of breathing karsts that rise above the ocean.

Taking a luxury overnight cruise is the best thing to do for couples in Halong Bay. For a romantic getaway and honeymoon, I recommend spending 2 nights on the cruise. You can choose the rooms with a private balcony and bathtubs to enjoy the views of the bay together.

On the cruise, you can watch sunrise and sunset together, enjoy swimming, kayaking, explore the caves, and visit the floating fishing village.

Halong Bay is located in North Vietnam and is easily accessible by road from Hanoi. It is only around a 4 hour drive away. You can take buses and private transfers from Hanoi’s old quarter to Halong. Many cruise tours include a two way transfer between Hanoi and Halong.

4. Hoi An  – one of the most romantic cities in the world

Hoi An is a popular tourist destination in central Vietnam. It is one of the best places to visit in Vietnam for couples because it has a charming ancient town and a peaceful beach area. 

You can hand in hand wander around the winding alleyways in the old town, visit ancient houses, shop for some unique souvenirs, try some local foods, and have your custom suits and dress made. You can take a cooking class as well as learn how to make lanterns together.

At night, you can take a romantic boat ride on Hoai River to release lanterns and make wishes. You can check out the night market or have a nice dinner along the banks of Hoai River on An Hoi island.

You can rent a bike to explore the beaches and the countryside. An Bang Beach and Cua Dai Beach is only around 5 km away and are great places for swimming and sunbathing.

Hoi An has many nice boutique hotels in the old town and resorts on the beach area. I recommend looking at Hoi An Historic Hotel in the ancient town and AIRA Boutique Villa in An Bang Beach.

Hoi An is located 40 km away from Da Nang. The closest airport and train station to Hoi An is in Da Nang. From Da Nang airport and train station, you can easily use Grab taxi to get to Hoi An town.

Da Nang is one of the best beach cities in Vietnam for couples. This is a major city in central Vietnam and has everything that you would need for a memorial holiday with your loved ones. 

Da Nang has nice sandy beaches, delicious food, lots of outdoor activities, nice rooftop bars, and cultural attractions. You can visit famous attractions such as Han River, Dragon Bridge, My Khe Beach, Marble Mountains, Linh Ung pagoda, and Ba Na Hill.

You can go shopping at many markets such as Han market and Con Market. The city also has several malls for shopping such as Vincom Da Nang.

My Khe Beach is a beautiful beach, where you can enjoy swimming, sun bathing, surfing, and people watching. It is a great place to watch the romantic sunset and sunrise.

If you want to stay right on the beach, you will find many luxury beach resorts along the coast line on My Khe Beach and Non Nuoc Beach. Or if you want a more authentic experience and local vibe, you can opt for a hotel in the city center on the banks of the Han River.

Similar to other cities in central Vietnam, the best month to visit Da Nang is from February to August. This is the dry season, so you can enjoy the city with its best weather. Lots of sunshine and little to no rain.

6. Sapa – The Town of Clouds

Sapa is a romantic getaway in North Vietnam, located 6 hours drive from Hanoi. Similar to Dalat, this city is located high on the mountain, and is known for its mild climate and breathing natural landscapes.

You can go trekking or explore different ethnic villages.  You can take a cable car ride to the summit of Fansipan Mountain or stay in a homestay for an authentic experience.

This town is known for its rice terrace, and the rice terrace at its best scene in the harvest season, which is from March to May, and September to November . 

7. Hanoi – capital city of Vietnam

Hanoi is a cultural capital of Vietnam that is known for its lively old quarter and authentic Vietnamese food. It is the transport hub of North Vietnam, so you can spend a couple of nights here to explore the city. 

You can explore the old quarter by wandering around or taking a cyclo ride. Major attractions to check out are Hoan Kiem Lake, the train street, Hoa Lo prison, West Lake, Tran Quoc pagoda, and Thang Long Imperial Palace. 

You can try traditional dishes together such as pho, bun cha Hanoi, banh mi, and banh cuon. If you love coffee, you can try iced coffee and egg coffee.

The best time to visit Hanoi is in autumn when the weather is pleasant and the leaves change their color. This adds more romantic feelings to this ancient city.

The best place to stay in Hanoi for couples is the old quarter. You can find many nice boutique hotels here. I recommend  The Rex Hanoi Hotel. This is a great mid-range hotel centrally located in the heart of the old town very close to the nightlife of Ta Hien street and many other popular attractions. It has a nice rooftop terrace with a bar and a beautiful breakfast area where yip can have sweeping views of the city.

8. Ho Chi Minh City – bustling city in South Vietnam

Similar to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh city is a big city in Vietnam and is a first arrival point to the country for many visitors. This city is a great place for couples who want a dynamic urban experience.

You can explore the city together by visiting famous attractions such as Ben Thanh Market, War Museum, Independence Palace, and Bui Vien Walking Street. The city also has many trendy rooftop terraces and bars to enjoy the nightlife.

For couples who want to learn more about Vietnamese war history, you can take day trips to Cu Chi tunnels, which is a huge underground system used in the Vietnam-American war. You can also consider taking a cruise on the Mekong Delta to experience river life and the floating market in Vietnam.

Ho Chi Minh has many choices of mid-range and luxury hotels with very nice rooftop terraces with sky bars and infinity pools. I recommend looking at La Vela Saigon Hotel in district 3 and Orchids Saigon Hotel near district 1. They are all great and affordable hotels in central Saigon.

Overall, in my opinion, Da Lat and Sapa are the best destinations for couples who want a breathtaking mountain landscape, mild climate, and don’t mind being away from the beaches. On other hand, Phu Quoc and Da Nang are the best options for a romantic beach vacation. Hoi An is known for its ancient town and peaceful beaches, and Halong Bay is great for luxury overnight cruises.
