Where is My Khe Beach?

My Khe Beach is the northern part of the 30km coastline from Danang’s Son Tra peninsula to Hoi An’s Cua Dai beach. This beach is around 10km long, spanning from Son Tra peninsula to the Marble Mountain area.
From north to south of this 10km long coastline, you can see many different beaches on Google Maps such as Man Thai beach, Bãi tắm Phạm Văn Đồng, My Khe Beach, My An Beach, or Bãi tắm T20.
The central area of My Khe Beach is the area running parallel with Vo Nguyen Giap street, spanning from East Sea Park to the beaches around Pullman and Furama Resorts.
The central area of My Khe Beach is around 2km long, corresponding with the central area of Da Nang City Center and Han River, which stretches from Han River bridge to Dragon Bridge, and Tran Thi Ly bridge.
You’ll see several areas labeled ‘My Khe Beach’ on Google Maps, but they all refer to the same beach.
“My Khe” is named after the local village, which is home to the long stretch of beach. During the Vietnam-American war, American soldiers called it “China Beach”. However, the name has no connection to China and is no longer used in Vietnam.
Why should you stay along My Khe Beach?
My Khe Beach is one of the best places to stay in Da Nang, especially for beach lovers. It has a relatively central location, a wide range of luxury resorts, and easy access to lots of tourist facilities such as seafood restaurants, shops, and bars.
1. Easy walk to the beach

Staying along the beach means you can easily walk to the beach any time of the day for beach activities. The beach has white sand, and clean water, and is an ideal place for swimming, sunbathing, walking, yoga, surfing, and many other watersport activities.
Sunset and Sunrise are the most popular times to visit the beach. It’s usually packed with both locals and tourists. Locals usually go to the beach early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the heat and strong sun.
If you want to experience local life on the beach, you can wake up early around 5-6am to see locals exercise, swim, fishing, and socialize. It’s full of life! If you stay in the city center, you might not bother walking up that early to catch a taxi to the beach.
While Grab taxis are cheap and it’s only a 5-10 minute taxi ride from the city center to the beach, it’s still not convenient if you want to go to the beach multiple times during the day. And the taxi cost can add up quickly.
2. Lots of 5-star luxury resorts on the beach

My Khe Beach is lined with luxury all inclusive resorts, especially the area South of the main My Khe Beach area. You can find 5-star Pullman, Furama, TIA Wellness, Crowne Plaza, or Danang Marriott Resort.
These world-class resorts have private beach areas, so you can enjoy a quieter atmosphere from the public beach section.
3. Relatively Central location
My Khe Beach has a relatively central location. From the beach, it is just a 5-10 minute Grab taxi ride to the city center and Han River with famous attractions such as Dragon Bridge, Han Market, Con Market, or Son Tra Night Market.
The Beach is also close to Son Tra peninsula where you can visit the Lady Buddha, special yellow head monkeys, Ban Co Peak, as well as Marble Mountains, and Hoi An ancient town.
4. Seafood restaurants
The beach road Vo Nguyen Giap is lined with seafood restaurants, especially the area around East Asia Park. You can pick fresh seafood from the tank and have the restaurant cook it however you like.
Additionally, there are many trendy cafes and bars along the beach. You can easily find a wide range of restaurants and bars serving all kinds of local Vietnamese and international cuisines in An Thuong area located within walking distance to My Khe Beach.
The cons of staying in My Khe Beach
My Khe is an excellent area to stay in Da Nang, but it has several downsides. Firstly, the prices of food and accommodations along the beach are usually more expensive than in the city center. This is easily undesirable due to its prime location along the beach.
Secondly, the beach front has less authentic restaurants than the city center. So, if you want a local atmosphere, and authentic food, you can check the restaurants on the streets behind the beach, or head to the city center area for food.
Another downside of My Khe Beach is that there aren’t many shaded trees along the shores in the public beach area. However, there are sunbeds and umbrellas for rent along the beach. Or you can buy food and drink from the beach vendors to use their beach facilities.
