If you are looking for the best places to stay in Phu Quoc, you’re in the right place. I had a wonderful holiday in Phu Quoc and stayed in several accommodations, so in this post, I will show you the best areas and where to stay in Phu Quoc for both first time and returning visitors.
I’ll also give you some personal tips and an informative video that I think will be useful for your trip to Phu Quoc at the end of this article.
I’m Vietnamese and I travel extensively throughout the country. I explored most parts of Phu Quoc, so I can share with you the best areas based on my first-hand experience and research.
I recently visited this island in April. It was a 45-minute flight from Ho Chi Minh City, and the return tickets with Vietjet Air cost me 150 AUD. From Phu Quoc airport, I took Grab Car to get to my hotel in Duong Dong Town (only 100,000 VND!).
Many hotels offer free scheduled airport transfer, so double check with your hotel if they can pick you up for free.

Where to stay in Phu Quoc?

Duong Dong is the main town of Phu Quoc, located in the central west coast, making it a convenient base for first-time visitors exploring both north and south of Phu Quoc.
Most tour operators provide free hotel pick-up in and around Duong Dong, but a surcharge applies for other locations on the island.
The town is home to many tour agencies and tourist facilities like restaurants and shops. It is the location of the popular night market and Dinh Cau Rock Temple.
In addition to Duong Dong, first-timers can stay in Long Beach and Ong Lang Beach. These areas are located very close to the main town of the island, offering easy access to amenities and attractions.
Long Beach is located just south of Duong Dong, and close to the international airport. This area is home to a selection of 5-star resorts like Salinda, Dusit, InterContinental, Regent, Novotel, and Pullman.
Ong Lang beach is located just north of Duong Dong and south of Cua Can. It is where you can find popular hotels like Ocean Bay, Mango Bay, or Camia resort.
If you want to stay closer to Vinpearl complex, which is home to family-friendly a Aquarium, Amusement Park, and Water park, you can book your stay in your stay in resorts near Bai Dai Beach like Vinpearl, Melia, Wyndham, and Crowne Plaza.
While the west coast offers stunning sunset views, you can consider staying in the east coast which has a more secluded atmosphere and beautiful sunrise views.
There are a cluster of hotels and resorts along Bai Khem Beach in the south eastern part of Phu Quoc. Famous resorts in this part are New World Resort, and JW Marriott.
Most resorts will have laundry services, but it can be very expensive and charge per item. A T-shirt will cost around 40.000 VND. If you need to do your laundry, I recommend looking for a laundry shop nearby for cheaper prices.
My top pick hotels and resorts in Phu Quoc:
- Luxury: New World Resort (peaceful retreat on the east coast)
- Luxury: Regent Phu Quoc (South Long Beach)
- Luxury: Dusit Resort (I stayed here, good location near airport and main town)
- Mid-range: Camia Resort & Spa (Ong Lang Beach)
- Budget: Sea Star Resort (North Long Beach)
Phu Quoc is a relaxing beach resort destination, filled with 5-star luxury resorts that are perfect for a peaceful beach retreat. Accommodations on the island are generally more expensive than in other parts of Vietnam, so be prepared for that. If you book in advance, you might have a good deal.
Luxury world class resorts are often located outside of the main town, while mid-range and budget options are usually found in Duong Dong Town. If you want to stay in upscale resorts or more tranquil atmopshere, you will need to sacrifice a bit of the central location. You can always use a taxi to get to the main town and night market for a visit anyway.
The island stretches about 50 km in length and is 23 km wide at its widest point. No matter which area you choose to stay, you can easily explore all attractions on taxi, motorbike rental, or guided tours.
I personally stayed in 3 resorts on Phu Quoc including Sea Star, Dusit, and Seashells. All are in the central west coast of the island (within or very close to Duong Dong), easy access to all tourist amenities by walking or taking a short Grab bike.
My favorite place to stay in Phu Quoc is Dusit Princess because it has more balance in terms of location, beach, room, and breakfast.
Seashells is a good base if you want to stay really close to Phu Quoc night market and the main town. They both have nice quality rooms, an outdoor swimming pool, and a clean beachfront area.

Sea Star Resort is a good option for budget travelers. It has a central location, peaceful tropical garden and beautiful private beach with lots of free sunbeds and shaded coconut trees. They have a lovely beach bar, where you can chill and watch the stunning sunset.

The Downside of Sea Star is that the buffet breakfast wasn’t good enough for me, but you can choose to eat outside. Many restaurants, bars, and shops are just walking distance away from Tran Hung Dao street. The popular OCSEN beach bar for sunset and fireshow are also close. My room had a garden view and had basic amenities but it was ok for me for its rate.
Where to stay in Phu Quoc with kids?
Phu Quoc has so many family-friendly resorts and hotels that have amazing facilities for kids. Your family can choose to stay in Duong Dong and Long Beach on the west coast or Bai Khem Beach on the east coast.
I stayed at both Dusit Resort and Seashells Hotel and recommend these accommodations for families who want to stay in good mid-range hotels while being close to the main town.
They both have a private beach area, swimming pool, and a kid’s corner. They are also in a central location, with easy access to the main town and the night market.
Best Family Hotels in Phu QuocThe 5 best areas to stay in Phu Quoc for tourists:
1. Duong Dong, the best area for first time

Duong Dong is undoubtedly one of the most popular areas to stay in Phu Quoc for first-timers. This is the island’s main town, with easy access to the beach, the lively nightlife, authentic seafood restaurants, and shops. It also has a good range of budget-friendly hotels and resorts.
Duong Town is located on the banks of Duong Dong River, in the middle west coast of Phu Quoc, making it a convenient base to explore the both northern and southern part of the island.
It’s also convenient to travel from and to Phu Quoc airport and Bai Vong Port. It’s only a 20 minutes taxi drive from the international airport and the island’s main port to the mainland. You can easily use Grab taxi from the airport and the pier to get to your hotel, which costs around 150,000 VND.
Most tour agencies, government offices, and services are located in Duong Down, so you won’t have to pay extra surcharges when booking tours with additional costs for pick up and drop off from your hotel. You can save on taxi fares and just walk to popular restaurants and tourist amenities.
The major attraction in Duong Dong is the Phu Quoc Night Market. The market is the best place on the island to find the freshest seafood and a wide variety of products, such as souvenirs, tropical fruits, handicrafts, and local specialties such as pepper, honey, sim wine, pearl, or fish sauce.
The market has many seafood restaurants, as well as stalls selling street food and grilled meats. It’s a quite large market, and for the cheaper prices I recommend walking all the way to the shops and restaurants further inside the market.
There are some interesting cultural attractions at the mouth of the Duong Dong River, where the sea meets the sea. You can visit the Dinh Cau temple, the light house, and the Dinh Ba Thanh Mau temple. They are within walking distance from each other and around 5 minutes walk from the night market.
The 17th century Dinh Cau temple is one of the island’s most iconic and beloved cultural landmarks. It’s a spiritual shrine perched on a rocky outcrop near the light house. The local fishermen come here to pray for safe voyages, calm seas, and good luck.
The temple is a great spot for watching the sunset and taking beautiful photos. From the temple, you can walk along the long pier next to the temple, and explore Bang Dang park, where locals gather and exercise. You can try the popular local food Bun Quay at Bun Quay Kien Xuong near the temple.
Some main roads in Duong Dong are the lower part of Tran Hung Dao Street, the riverside Bach Dang street, the Ba Mươi Tháng Tư, or Nguyen Trung Truc street. These streets are lined with restaurants, tour agents, laundry shops, massage shops, scooter rental shops, convenience stores, and ATMs.
I’ll divide Duong Dong town into two main areas: The beachfront area and the town center. You can pay a bit more for beachfront resorts to be right on the beach.
Otherwise, there are plenty of more budget-friendly hotels and guest houses in the town center, but still walking distance to the beach.

1.1. The Duong Dong Town Beachfront area
There are several beachfront resorts and hotels in Duong Dong, south and north of Duong Dong River. You’ll find luxury resorts in the south riverside, while the north river is home to several mid-range and budget-friendly hotels and resorts.

Best hotels and resorts in Duong Dong Town Beachfront:
Seashells Phu Quoc Hotel & Spa
I stayed at this resort and recommend it for those who want a good resort in a central location. This is perhaps the best resort in the beachfront area of Duong Dong town.
The resort has a convenient location, at the lower part of Tran Hung Dao street, southside of Duong Dong River. You can walk for a few minutes to the night market and popular restaurants.

Outside the resort, Tran Hung Dao street is lined with massage shops, juice shops, scooter rental shops, restaurants, laundry shops, tour agencies, and tourist amenities.
The beach at Seashells is clean with sun loungers and umbrellas for guests. There is a nice swimming pool overlooking the sea with the pool bar. You can enjoy beautiful seafood and local dishes at sunset and listen to live music at the onsite Huong Bien restaurant.
The buffet breakfast is nice with lots of options with both traditional Vietnamese and western food. From the beachfront at the resort, you can walk along the shote Dinh Cau rock and lighthouse.
My room was in 1102 which has city views and a comfortable bed and a clean bathroom. You can pay a little bit more for rooms with ocean views for the best experience.
The hotel offers free scheduled bus services to the airport, which was very convenient for me and I can save a bit of money on transport.
1.2. The Duong Dong Town Center area

If you are looking for budget-friendly accommodations, you will have more options in the town center than the beachfront. The south side of Duong Dong River has more hotels than the north side because it has a more central location, home to the night market and Dinh Cau temple.
If you want in the heart of the action, choose the hotels on the south side of Duong Dong River. If you want a quieter atmosphere and more local vibe, choose the north side of the river. The North side is closer to Ong Lang Beach, which is a quiet beach on the west coast for swimming and sunbathing.
Best Hotels in Duong Dong Town Center:
An Phu Hotel
This 3-star hotel is located on the 30 Thang 4 Road, one of the main roads on Duong Dong. It’s just two blocks away from the south side of Duong Dong River and is within walking distance to the night market. The hotel offers spacious and comfortable bed rooms. You can choose rooms with river views.
Blue Sky Phu Quoc Hotel
This 2-star hotel located on the south bank of Duong Dong river, offers beautiful views of the river and the city. The hotel is near the night market, and free Vinbus 17 and 19 stops.
Fla Village
This hotel is located on the north side of the Duong Dong River, and a good option for long term travelers. People stay here for a few days to a few weeks.
It’s best to rent a scooter when staying here or get a Grab taxi/ Bike to get around. It’s away from the busy tourist hubs, so you can relax and unwind.
The hotel has an onsite pool and a lively restaurant serving good food. Did you know that you can order food using the Grab App if you feel lazy going out for dinner? I do it sometimes when I’m traveling.
2. Long Beach, a hub of family-friendly resorts in Phu Quoc

Long Beach, or Bai Truong in Vietnamese, is the longest beach in Phu Quoc. It’s around a 17km long beach, south of Duong Dong town. The beach stretches along most of the length of Tran Hung Dao Street and DT975.
Long Beach is a popular beach in Phu Quoc due to its close proximity to the island’s main town and the airport, as well as a range of luxury world class resorts in the area.
Long Beach has white sand, calm water and is often lined with palm trees. It’s a perfect place for swimming, sunbathing, and watching the sunset. Beaches directly in front of the resorts are usually kept clean, so they are often in better condition than public areas.
As Long Beach is a long beach with hundreds of hotels and resorts along its shore and the main road, I’ll divide Long Beach into two zones: North Long Beach and South Long Beach. These two areas are spared by Song Tranh River and Phu Quoc International Airport.
Generally speaking, The North Long Beach offers easy access to the nightlife and shops in Duong Dong Town and the Lower part of Tran Hung Dao street. South Long Beach is a better base for a luxury resort beach holiday in a more quiet area.

2.1. North Long Beach, close to the island’s main town
North Long Beach is the 4km long beach, north of Phu Quoc International Airport, between Duong Dong Town and Song Tranh River. This area has a good range of resorts and hostels for all preferences, including budget, mid-range, and luxury options.
North Long Beach has an excellent location close to Duong Dong, so it’s convenient for just taking a short Grab taxi or bike ride to get to the main town to visit the night markets and popular restaurants.

Additionally, you can easily walk to the Lower part of Tran Hung Dao street, which is also packed with restaurants, shops, cafes, scooter rentals, and souvenir shops. You can find many restaurants serving delicious seafood, Korean-style BBQ, or international dishes such as Indian or pizzas.
The popular brand Bún quậy Kiến-Xây is located in Tran Hung Dao street, so you don’t need to travel to the town center for having the island’s popular dishes.
North Long Beach is home to some of the island’s most famous beach bars where you can enjoy the meals, drink, and fire shows at night and at sunset. Famous beach bars on Long Beach are OCSEN Beach Bar & Club, Sunset Beach Bar & Restaurant, Aloha Beach Bar.
Tran Hung Dao street is also home to the popular Kingkong Mart, where you can buy souvenirs and local facilities of the island. There are beach clothing, accessories, traditional Vietnamese handicrafts, as well as local products like peppers, honey, fish sauces.
Here my recommended hotels and resorts in North Long Beach:
Dusit Resort
I stayed at this hotel and recommend it for those who want a mid-range resort on the beach on North Long Beach near Duong Dong town. This hotel is around mid way between the island’s main town and the airport (10 mins Grab ride away and cost 70,000VND).

It’s a short walk away from Tran Hung Dao Street, where you can find a range of local seafood restaurants and shops. The famous Sunset Sanato Beach Club is nearby.
Dusit has a nice clean sandy beach with a beautiful sunset view and a big outdoor pool. My room was on the 3rd floor and had a pool view. It was spacious with a King Bed and a balcony with a nice setting. The breakfast buffet was varied with lots of options.
Sea Star Resort Phu Quoc

I had a great experience staying at this resort. I think it’s a good base for budget travelers in North Long Beach. The hotel has a beautiful beachfront area with a beautiful sunset view, tropical garden, and comfortable bungalows with all basic amenities.
Compared with the other two resorts I’ve stayed at in Phu Quoc, Dusit and Seashells, this resort has the best beach setting with lots of shade, sunbeds, and beautiful decorations for taking photos.
The hotel has a nice beachfront restaurant with BBQ seafood at sunset and buffet breakfast in the morning. It’s an excellent place to sit at sunset and try cold beer or coconut.
Their restaurant was not the best place to eat, but there are many restaurants on Tran Hung Dao Street. I walked all the way to King Kong Mart to buy some local souvenirs. The Ocean bar is also nearby.
Salinda Resort Phu Quoc
This is a beautiful 5-star resort in North Long Beach. It has direct access to the clean beachfront with sunloungers, umbrellas. The resort also has beautiful grounds and a lovely outdoor swimming pool.
It’s in a pretty good location, easy distance to Duong Dong city and the airport. The main road Tran Hung Dao street outside of the resort also has plenty of restaurants and shops to explore.
2.1. South Long Beach, luxury resort area
South Long Beach is the southern section of Long Beach (Bai Truong in Vietnamese), located south of Phu Quoc Airport and Song Tranh River. This beach is around 13km long and is home to a cluster of 5-star world class resorts.

If you want luxury and all-inclusive expenses, there are dozens of resorts in South Long Beach for you to choose from. Most of these high-end resorts have their own private beach, multiple swimming pools, kid clubs, spa services, kid’s clubs, and multiple restaurants and bars.
South Long Beach is a bit further away from the island’s main town, so it has a quieter atmosphere. You can take a Grab taxi to get to the night market area.
Ngoc Hien Pearl Farm is a popular place to visit in South Long Beach. You can learn about the pearl cultivation process, and explore their showroom and jewellery store to buy accessories made from real Phu Quoc pearls.
Similar to North Long beach, South Long Beach is home to some beautiful beachfront bars and clubs such as Sunset Sanato Beach Club. This beach club has unique wooden sculptures and art installations, creating a beautiful setting for views and photos at sunset.
South Long Beach is a great base to explore the southern part of Phu Quoc island. It’s closer to An Thoi Cable Car station, Sunset Town, several islands of Phu Quoc, as well as famous attractions on the south eastern coast such as Sao Beach, Khem Beach, Phu Quoc Prison Museum, and Ho Quoc pagoda.
Sunset Town is a short Grab taxi ride from South Long Beach. The town is developed by Sun Group with Mediterranean-style architecture and European town feels with pastel buildings, cobblestone streets, and scenic plazas.
Iconic landmarks at Sunset town are the kiss bridge and clock tower. These are one of the most popular sunset photography points on the island. There are also Entertainment Shows in the evening such as Kiss of The Sea Show with multimedia performance with water, light, and fireworks.
From Sunset Town, you can take a beautiful cable car to Hon Thom island. I’ve taken many cable car rides around Vietnam (in Danang, Nha Trang, Dalat), but this one is one of the best, so don’t miss it.
The cable car is above the ocean is about 7.9 km in roughly 15 minutes, offering stunning panoramic views of turquoise waters, fishing boats, and islands below. At Hon Thom island, you can watch cultural shows, and explore its water parks. It’s a family-friendly destination in Phu Quoc.
South Long Beach is a convenient base to visit Phu Quoc Prison Museum, and Ho Quoc pagoda to learn about cultural and historical aspects of the island.

The prison was originally built during the French colonial period to detain political dissidents. Later, it was used by Ho Viet Cong and North Vietnamese prisoners of war during the Vietnam-American War.
At the museum, you can explore the artifacts, sections of the former prison barracks, the tunnels, barbed‑wire enclosures, and the famous tiger cages, where prisoners were confined in brutal conditions.
Ho Quoc pagoda is a must-see cultural attraction in Phu Quoc. It’s located on a hillside overlooking the ocean. The temple has beautiful architecture and a peaceful atmosphere. You can spot the statue of the White Lady Budda statue from the cable car ride.
Here my recommended hotels and resorts in South Long Beach:

Ong Lang Beach, located between Duong Dong and Cua Can, is a good choice for a quiet beach vacation on Phu Quoc island. It has numerous high end and budget-friendly resorts with a clean private beach area where you can relax and enjoy the sunset.
Ong Lang is just 10 minutes Grab taxi Drive from Duong Dong, it’s still convenient to get to the nightlife and shopping area while being in a quiet beach section.

Beautiful places in the northern coast of Phu Quoc are also relatively close to Ong Lang. You can easily visit Rac Vem fishing Village, and Starfish Beach.
Here are some of the best places to stay in Ong Lang Beach:

It has 2 swimming pools, a private beach area, and airport shuttle services. I think it is a great base if you rent a motorbike or take guided tours.
Mango Bay Resort
If you want a quiet getaway in a tranquil location, you can have a look at Mango Bay Resort. You can stay in a beautiful private bungalow with a lovely design and excellent outdoor bathroom. You can have good food at its onsite restaurant.
4. Bai Dai Beach, good location close to Vinpearl

Bai Dai is a 5.5 km long beach located on the north western part of Phu Quoc, north of Duong Dong Town and 45 minute drive from the international airport.
This beach is located between Ganh Dau Beach and Vung Bau Beach. It is close to VinPearl facilities such as the water park, amusement park, and aquarium. Bai Dai is a convenient base for families and couples to explore Vinpearl facilities.
There are numerous points of interest nearby including Turtle island, Mong Tay island, Starfish Beach, Ham Rong Cape, and Phu Quoc National park.
Bai Dai has several 5-star beachfront resorts and hotels. Some big casinos of the island are located on the resorts along Bai Dai, so if you want to try your luck, this is a place to go.
Best places to stay in Bai Dai Phu Quoc:
Vinpearl Wonderworld
If you are looking for family-friendly accommodation in Bai Dai for a big family, I recommend Vinpearl Wonderworld. This hotel has 4-bedroom villa options which can accommodate up to 8 family members. Additionally, it is very close to VinWonders and Vin Safari, making it a great base with the children.
Melia Vinpear
Another great 5-star luxury resort in Bai Dai/Ganh Dau is the Melia Vinpearl. This hotel has room for singles, couples, and families. It has a white sandy beach, an outdoor swimming pool, and free airport shuttle services. The buffet breakfast is the same everyday but still has lots of choices and great food.
Radisson Blu Resort
I also recommend Radisson Blu Resort for families and couples in Bai Dai. The hotel has a free shuttle bus from/to the airport. It is a convenient location for easy access to Grand, VinnWonders, and Safari.
5. Bai Khem Beach, best area to stay on the east coast

Bai Khem Beach is a popular beach on the southern part of Phu Quoc, just south of Bai Sao Beach, 25 km from Duong Dong Town. Located on the eastern part of the island, it is a great place to watch the sun rise. There are numerous 5-star resorts in Bai Khem, making it a great place to relax and unwind.
Bai Khem Beach is a great base to explore the southern attractions like Sao Beach, Ho Quoc pagoda, Phu Quoc prison, An Thoi cable car, and sunset town. Mui Ong Cape is a great spot to watch the sunset and sunrise at the same spot.
Here are the best hotels and resorts in Bai Khem:
JW Marriott
If you are looking for a luxury relaxing stay in Phu Quoc as a family or couple, I suggest JW Marriott in Bai Khem Beach. It is one of the best hotels in Phu Quoc with top-notch service, rooms, and breakfast buffet.
New World Resort
In a similar location and price to JW Marriott, New World Resort is also a great base for families and couples in Bai Khem Beach. Like many other beachfront resorts, New World has its own private beach, an onsite restaurant, a huge pool, and garden. This is a place to stay for a chill and relaxing vacation.
Premier Residences
For mid-range options in Bai Khem, I suggest Premier Residences. With around 150 AUD/ night, you can have a comfortable stay in this southern part of Phu Quoc island.
Some personal notes from me when visiting Phu Quoc:
If you have limited time in Phu Quoc, 3 to 4 days is a minimum amount of time to explore the island, enjoy the beaches, visit famous cultural attractions, and take the cable car ride. You can check my article here: How to Spend 3 to 4 days in Phu Quoc Itinerary
My favorite things to do in Phu Quoc are relax at the beach (Sao Beach or any resort’s private beach), enjoy the sunset, take a cable car ride, visit Ho Quoc pagoda, Phu Quoc prison, and the Pearl Farm.
I also like to browse at the night market and Kingkong Mart on Tran Hung Dao Street. If you are not sure what to do in Phu Quoc, you can have a look at this article: Best things to do in Phu Quoc.
The best time to visit Phu Quoc is from November to April in dry season. You can read more here: Best Month to Visit Phu Quoc.
You can watch my video about the best areas in Phu Quoc to book hotels here:
These are my list of the 5 best areas to stay in Phu Quoc for both first-timers and returning travelers. They include Duong Dong, Long Beach, Ong Lang Beach, Bai Dai, and Bai Khem.
I think Duong Dong and Long Beach are the best options for first-time visitors due to its central location in the middle of the island, making it an easy distance to see both the North and South of the island.
Phu Quoc is small in general, you can easily visit major sights by renting a motorbike, a car, or taking a guided tour no matter where you choose to stay.
Hello Huong Tran , Greetings 🙏
Thank you for your information on travels and stays in Vietnam. I am so looking forward to visiting.
Was wondering if you could add more budget friendly accommodations in your vlogs. Also, would like to know more about long term residency programs for retirement.
Thank you Huong ,wishing you happy safe travels.
Kai.
Hi Kai,
If you can let me know your budget range, I might be able to help you find a hotel. Otherwise, I suggest visiting booking.com or agoda.com and using their filters to set your budget. Make sure to read the overall reviews for the best experience.
Huong
Hi Kai,
Canadians here wanting to come to Vietnam for 3 months (Jan to Apr).
We plan to start in the South ie Phu Quoc and move North.
We would love a beautiful beach location that is not too close to any Westernized/commercial areas and with transportation to and from the airport. Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks in advance. B&P 🇨🇦
Hi Brenda,
I’m not sure if your question is about Phu Quoc or Vietnam in general. If it’s about Phu Quoc, the island still has a nice local atmosphere, even though there are plenty of tourist amenities. If you’re looking for another beach destination that attracts more Vietnamese visitors than foreigners, you could add Quy Nhon to your list. If you could clarify your question, I might be able to give you a better answer.
